Phase 1 of Peking University’s Oxford campus begins on site

With listed building consent now in place, Oxford contractor Kingerlee have commenced construction of the first phase of our masterplan for Peking University on Boars Hill. This includes the relocation of the entrance and reception, refurbishment of the main hall and a structural glass enclosure over an inner courtyard. The hall refurbishment includes some restoration work, new lighting and replacement windows in what was originally a verandah. The new atrium creates a fully glazed enclosure from where the exterior of the tower and hall can be appreciated fully. A new stone wall opposite the hall rationalises the space and replaces the walls of the not so well considered extension carried out in the 1990s. Completion is expected by the end of the summer.
